Butterfly Life Cycle Story Time

Opening:

Hello Song (Tune: Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush)

This is the way we wave hello, wave hello, wave hello.

This is the way we wave hello,

Hello, hello, hello!

This is the way we clap hello…

This is the way we tap hello…

Talkabout:

Hello! Today we’re going to be talking about the life cycle of the butterfly! What do you know about butterflies? What colors of caterpillars have you seen before?

Book:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle

Activity:

The best activities are the ones that you can eat! Thanks to A Joy Filled Life, I found a picture showing the life cycle of a butterfly. Lining up the events with the story, this photo shows how marshmallows are similar in appearance to the eggs, gummy worms look like caterpillars, Tootsie Rolls look like the chrysalis, and you can find some snack crackers that will look like butterflies. Of course, the crackers are always substitutable if you can’t find them.

Closing:

Goodbye Song (Tune: The Farmer in the Dell)

We wave goodbye like this.

We wave goodbye like this.

We clap our hands for all our friends.

We wave goodbye like this.
